Pro in the USA vs Amature in Canada
If you are from Canada, you are considered to be an amateur arm wrestler. The majority of armwrestling tournaments in Canada are ameteur as there are no prize awards for placing. The BC Provincial and Canadian Championships are ameteur tournaments and there is no money prizes for the winners.
In the USA, arm wrestlers are either amateur or professional. Amateur tournaments have no money prize awards for the winners; professional tournaments have money prizes for the winners. In the USA, once a competitor has competed professionally for money, they cannot return to compete in an ameteur event. For this reason, arm wrestlers from the USA usually compete as amateurs and wait until they begin to win or place and then go to the professional class to win money.
Why I Like Arm Wrestling Predominantly In Canada
Being a Canadian arm wrestler is awesome because we can compete in a Canadian amateur tournament such as the Provincial or Canadian Championships and then go to a USA competition and compete in the Professional league and win money.
Competing in the USA is great because if you are good, you can compete and win money.
Always keep in mind that one of the best arm wrestlers in the world today is Devon Larratt from Canada. Other Canadian heros of mine are Dave Hicks and Anthony Dall'Antonia.
I believe that to be an excellent arm wrestler, you require four things - Speed, Strength, Technique and Psychology.
Every training session if you have a training parter try to work on the following 4 things:
1 - Speed, 2 - Strength, 3 - Technique and 4 - Psychology.
Practice as much as possible so that the basic elements of a refereed match come naturally and you do not need to think about them. These basic elements include: putting your elbow down on the pad, gripping fairly, holding the peg and centering your shoulders and arms.
Instead of focusing on the basic elements, you need to focus on the start of the match and getting into your strong position first.
